Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is being investigated under allegations of bribery and trust violations, anti-corruption prosecutors said.
Similarly, authorities raided the offices of the conservative Kurz party and some of its main aides.
Allegations are that, beginning in 2016 when Kurz was foreign minister and later when he became Chancellor, the Finance Ministry has paid ads in a newspaper in exchange for surveys and favorable coverage.
The Office of Prosecutors for Economic Affairs and Corruption has ruled under investigation Sebastian Kurzin, nine others and three organisations, under suspicion of violation of trust, corruption and bribery”, this office said through a statement.
Kurz and his People's Party (OVP) said political motives are behind the investigation.

People's Party Vice President Gaby Schwarz said the party headquarters raid is a “political installation” aimed at damaging Kurzin and the party.
