The branch of the extremist group, the Islamic State in Afghanistan (IS-K), has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack in a rainy mosque in Kandahar, south of Afghanistan, during Friday's prayers.
The jihadist group has said that two suicide attackers have carried out the separate attacks in two different parts of the mosque, while believers are praying inside.
The first neuro-sulmator blew up his vest in a mosque corridor, until the second blew up the vest in the centre of the mosque”, this group said through a statement published on the telegram platform.
At least 36 people have died and 70 have been injured in the October 15th attack, Kandahar's intelligence chief said in a statement to Radio Free Europe.
The attack took place a week after another deadly attack on Shiite believers at a mosque in Kunduz.
Even for that attack, he took responsibility for IS-K.
Taliban spokesman Bilal Karori has said investigations are under way on the October 15th attack.
The Taliban have reduced the threat coming from the Islamic State.
But continuing attacks have made it difficult for the Taliban to pursue peace in Afghanistan after decades of war.
