Following the unanimous vote of an advisory panel, the recommendation now awaits the US Food and Barnat Administration's approval.
The advisers expressed growing concern that the J&J vaccine, over time, offers less protection compared to Pfizer and Modern vaccines.
“They are comparing the information of immunization weakening and the priorities of giving reinforcement to different age groups. The data coming from Israel following the inoculation of people between 40 and 60 years of age shows that there are really benefits from taking the reinforcement dosage”, said Dr. Anthony Faucie.
Fauci added that depending on the circumstances, the US will change recommendations for the vaccine. In some parts of the country, mandatory vaccine by public and private employers has been met with protests, as in Washington's Boeing State factory.
Texas's repulic Governor Greg Abbott recently issued an executive order banning forced vaccines, rejecting President Biden's calls for companies with at least 100 employees to ask staff for vaccine or regular testing.
The Republican governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, says he does not support the ban on implementing the vaccine order from employers, even though he opposes orders imposed by the federal government.
“State representatives sometimes say employers should not have the right to impose mandatory vaccines on employees. To me, this approach is also wrong. It is neither appropriate for the debate nor principled”, he said.
Meanwhile, Friday's recommendation of the FDA panel would be applied to all persons over 18 who are vaccinated with J&J, at least two months after initial communication.
The move follows plans, presented in August by the White House, for a broad communication campaign with reinforcements.
