Experts say the region located in the Himalayas and is popular for tourists is suffering double effects of climate change and numerous constructions.
The floods have also affected the southern region, Kerala, where at least 26 people have died in recent days.
According to the Indian Weather Department, both regions have marked numerous rainfalls this year. Kerala, for example, has recorded 453.5 mm of rainfall compared with 100 inches [192.7 mm], which is estimated to be a common amount for this time of year.
Neilz Bharne, senior police official, said that in areas affected by the floods, rescue efforts are continuing. The disaster management agency has so far engaged 16 teams, reportedly saving 300 people.
