Montgomery will be the first convicted federal prison to be executed in 70 years. She was sentenced to death in 2004, after she killed a pregnant woman and pulled the baby out of her womb. According to international media, the execution was envisioned a month ago, but was postponed after one of the women's lawyers was infected with David-19.
The justice department decided on January 12th, but its lawyers indicated that a new date could not be fixed while the suspension of execution was still in force. A judge gave justice to the defence party, but the day before the three appeals court judges in Washington cancelled his decision by giving the green light for execution.
The woman's lawyers warned they would reject the verdict. The last woman to be executed by the U.S. government is Bonnie Hedi, who died in a gas room in Missouri in 1953.
