White House National Security Deputy Adviser Matt Pottinger resigned after President Trump encouraged protests that led to his supporters attacking the US Capitol on Wednesday. The news has been confirmed for CNN by a person close to Pottinger.
CNN reported on Wednesday evening that some of President Donald Trump's top aides, including national security adviser Robert O'Brien and cabinet deputy chief Chris Liddell, were considering stepping down.
Meanwhile, two top first lady consultants, Melanie Trump, resigned Wednesday after the violence at the US Congress.
Within Trump's White House, there is anger and concern over the unprecedented violence that emerged as Congress began counting the votes of the Electoral College to confirm President-elect Joe Biden's victory.
