Eugen Cakoli from KDI says today's CEC decision to verify voter applications abroad through calls is necessary for increasing the integrity of the election process.

Chocolate writes:

Voting abroad is one of the most vulnerable and sensitive operations of the election process, which is common to have produced problematic situations that have jeopardised the integrity of the entire election process. This fact has also been recorded by local and international election monitoring reports, especially since the 2017 local elections.

Easing procedures for application and voting abroad should not be meant as compromising the integrity and transparency of the elections, making this operation uncontrolled at all.

Although without details and not completely clear, today's CEC decision to verify voter applications abroad through calls approved U n NANIMISH, it is necessary to increase the integrity of the election process.

However, this decision must be issued away, including determining double control of the making of calls, the number of calls, the problem of various time zones, and similar ones.

By this decision, situations of manipulation of the voting process abroad are averted, as we have had the most epic case at the end of 2017, when the second round of elections for Istog chairman had been repeated overall. Even at that time, when PZAP had attempted to confirm the identity of voters abroad through their phone call, most of them had turned out to be sound or wrong numbers.

Among other things, this decision addresses the situation with votes coming from Serbia, which have been consistently controversial because of suspicions that applications have been made by the same people and have never been verified.

Treating this topic as a political and electoral daily calculator is unnecessary and harmful.
