The American Congress resumed its hearing to confirm the results of the Elexorial College for the victory of President-elect Joe Biden, following unprecedented violence in the Capitol..
Following several speeches by his members, the US Senate overwhelmingly rejected a movement by President Donald Trump's allies to challenge the Certificate of the presidential election results for the state of Arizona that gave the democrat Joe Biden victory.
Both Democrats and Republicans condemned violence in Congress, but while the Democrats blamed President Trump for inciting her, most republics did not mention her.
We condemn in the harshest way the violence that happened here. We grieve over the loss of life in these sacred halls as well as the injuries suffered by those who protected our Capitol today”, said Vice President Mike Pence.
He said those who attacked didn't win.
“Dhuna never wins. Freedom wins, and this is still the people's home. As we reassemble into this room, the world will again be a witness to the resistance and strength of our democracy”, said Mr. Pence.
Republican head of the Senate Mitch McConnell said that “would carry out our duty under the Constitution for our nation. ”
He added that this task would be done today.
This afternoon, Congress began the process of honoring the will of the American people and counting the Electoral College votes. We have fulfilled this solemn task every four years for more than two centuries”, he said.
But while some Republicans have withdrawn from their objections to results in several states, including Senator Kelly Loeffler, who lost in Georgia's election, others like Josh Howley, continued to voice objections.
The head of Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, placed responsibility over President Trump.
This will be a stain on our country, not that easy to disappear. The last, terrible, inevitable legacy of the 45th president of the United States”, he said./voa/
