10 people survived the shipwreck, which occurred after its engine crashed hours after leaving the coastal town of Zawiya, west of the Tripoli capital on Tuesday morning.
In a joint statement by UN immigration and refugee agencies reportedly was the first shipwreck of the ship involving immigrants in the centre of the Mediterranean this year. Hundreds of people died in similar incidents in 2020, writes The Guardian, records Periscope.
A spokesman from Alarm Phone, who communicates with migrants and refugees at sea, said the incident was the result of EU border policy.
In April of last year, Italy declared that its ports were uncertain to achieve the cause of the coronary pandemic.
The UN said access to immigrants from the Mediterranean should be changed, including ending their return policy to countries from which they came. /Periscopate
