Shpend Ahmeti urges constitutional changes to avoid political uncertainties

The mayor of Pristina has reacted after the Constitutional Court's Act on Validity of the mandate and the vote of former MP Etem Arifi. Mayor Ahmeti has made this reaction nearly a month after the appearance of the Action. This indictment countered the constitutionality of Albin Kurt's candidacy for MP in the February 14th elections, and yes [...]
The indictment rejected Albin Kurti's candidacy for MPs in the February 14th elections, as well as several other MPs who were convicted of shedding tear gas two and a half years ago.
Ahmeti has said that the last decision “causes uncertainty and instability”, Periscopi follows.
He has called on our political parties to be represented in the Assembly to begin a process of constitutional changes to clarify three things
- The process of forming government and electing the Speaker of the Parliament after the elections;
- Explaining when the 15-day deadline starts due to the certificate of results for the mandate;
- Certificate of candidates sentenced by the tribunal.
Ahmeti believes that even in the upcoming elections, we will suffer from these shortcomings.
Full status:
Each time there are decisions by the Constitutional Court, we talk about the shortcomings and gaps in the constitution and then until the next decision there is no initiative to change it or increase clarity to unclear parts. Enver Hasani's absurd decision has been addressed 100 times. Even further, there is no Parliamentary Republic where the Speaker of the Parliament belongs to the winning election party, even if that party has received only 10 per cent of the vote.
The final decision also causes uncertainty, instability resulting from the things (not) stated in the Constitution. It would be good to start a process of constitutional changes after these elections to clarify at least three things: (i) the process of forming the government and electing the chairman after the election; (i) When the 15-day deadline begins to reach the certificate of results for the mandate and (ii) the certificate of candidates convicted by the tribunal.
Otherwise, in the next election, we'll mourn these shortcomings again.
