In an unprecedented letter published in the Washington Post, defence secretaries addressed the worst fears of what could happen in the remaining 17 days of the Trump administration prior to Joe Biden's inauguration as president: the effort by Trump to promote crisis with the aim of causing a military intervention.
“Efforts to include US military forces to resolve election disputes would lead us to a dangerous, illegal and unconstitutional territory,” said on paper, I follow Periscope.

Among the signatories were James Mattis and Mark Esper, who had served as defence secretaries in Donald Trump's administration.
Esper had openly opposed Trump in June, insisting that there was no grounds for the Captive Act, allowing American troops to be deployed on American roads under extreme circumstances.
The “Transitions (of power), which all of us have experienced, are key parts of the successful transfer of power. They often occur under uncertain international circumstances for US national security policy,” writes former defence secretaries. “They may be times when the nation is vulnerable to actions by opposers seeking to take advantage of the situation. ”
The Washington Post quoted Eric Edelman, the former American ambassador and the former defence official, saying the generation of this unprecedented letter was a conversation he had with Dick Cheney about how the army could be used in the coming days./Periscopi/
