Democracy in Action is following with concern recent developments regarding the certificate of candidates' lists and statements coming from different institutions and political parties regarding the process.
DnV calls for institutions, particularly the President's Task Guide, to refrain from statements and actions that could violate the independence of the CEC's work and the integrity of the elections itself. Public threats are unacceptable and unacceptable, and these do not coincide with values and advances Kosovo has had over the past few years in organising and managing the elections. All this created situation risks creating tensions and confusion among citizens, affecting the reduction of public confidence in the elections.
It is the responsibility and the obligation of all institutions to follow the legal ways and complaint procedures prior to the law, in the event of dissatisfaction with the decisions of institutions, and not to use public threats as a way of addressing their claims on legal violations.
DnV reiterates the need U.D. Kosovo's president to exercise its constitutional functions, despite the fact that the same is part of the election race, not getting involved in political debates and maintaining the spirit of this institution as representative of civic unity. We expect the U.D. The president's leading the debate towards achieving political unity and finding a common language, guaranteeing the constitutional functioning of institutions. DnV risks that the legal way is that each institution should follow in addressing their dissatisfaction.
It is up to leaders of institutions to ensure that the election process will be conducted according to the highest democratic standards, respecting their constitutional laws and obligations.
