Hundreds of protesters have been arrested in protests held in many cities in Russia, despite the authorities' warning against very low gatherings and temperatures in some parts.
According to an independent site following police, by Saturday afternoon, 863 people have been arrested in Moscow, CNN writes.
Protests began at the eastern end of Russia, Vladivostok, and then other cities in the central and western part of the world's largest surface state.
Navajo supporters have said they are planning protests in 90 cities. Also published are images of a small protest in the city of Yakutsk, where the temperature was -53 degrees.
At noon, crowds began gathering at the “Pushkin” Square in downtown Moscow, where the biggest protest was expected. Protesters faced tear gas, and many were arrested even before the protests officially began.
