Just a month after the establishment of the new government in Montenegro, the clash between President Milo Djukanovic and Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic has begun. Through social network tweets, both sides have pressed charges against each other.

President Milo Djukanovic, who also lost the August parliamentary elections, reacted to a claim by Abazovic, who in social media accused the head of having a huge debt to the state of 12, 4m euros. According to him, Dritan Abazovic serves the great Serbian nationalism.

The claim that I'm a tax debtor is a lie. As a citizen of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, I do not owe (state) a cent. I think my story has to do with Montenegro's identity and endangerment by the nationalism of the Great Serbia that he serves”, writes the president.

Abazovic, through a Twitter post, suggested Djukanovic owes 12.4m euros in taxes to the state, which prompted the president's response. But coexistence between the president and the opposing government does not seem to be easy, as another tension was marked among them.

The new cabinet passed a few days ago a number of amendments to laws adopted by Djukanovic's old government, the most controversial one on religious freedoms and the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Among the requirements was the withdrawal of seven ambassadors appointed by the previous executive with claims that they had worked against state interests.

But the president has refused the decrees, seeking their own understanding.

Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic warned that the return of constitutional decrees and violations also jeopardises the dismissal of the head of state.

The year 2020 showed that Montenegro will not remain the only country in Southeast Europe that has not changed power, because following parliamentary elections held on August 30th 2020, the new parliamentary majority on December 4th 2020, on 41 votes for a new ruling coalition, the proserb coalition.
