Former Prime Minister Mateo Renzi insists that the Cote government will secure a loan from the Eurozone rescue fund, warning the executive outcome if it refuses.
Renzi has been threatening for months to withdraw the two ministers of his small party “Italia Viva” from the government cabinet, fuelling political chaos in the country hit hard by Coronavirus.
The largest ruling coalition party, “, the movement of 5 stars”, opposes the credit idea, and thus far Cte has supported it. Renzi is expected to hold a press conference today, where he will announce the decision to withdraw or not the ministers, who are crucial to the government's survival between “5 stars” and PD.
The rescue fund known as the European stability mechanism provides 36 billion euros of soft loans to help member states recover the economy. But with free grants available, no country has so far shown interest in loans, with the concern of increasing national debt and market uncertainty.
