Professor Mark Woolhouse of the University of Edinburgh stressed that it is difficult to predict when and how this pandemic will explode.
The point is when we're going to face the next pandemic, not if there's going to be next pandemic. The mechanisms of how a virus develops among people cannot be predicted.
Every two years, scientists discover 1 or 2 new viruses that can be transmitted to humans, and this frequency is the same as 50 years now”, Woolhouse said.
“I'm not sure it's being given much thought to the next threat, since the world is now focused on current pandemic”, the British scientist added.
