Godiva has announced it plans to close 128 shops in the US. The Belgian company says the Covid-19 pandemic has led to a drastic decline in total sales, but increased sales have been found online.
Local reports indicated that many of Godiva's shops will remain open until Valentine's Day. “Of course, where the decision was difficult because of the care we have of our chocolate fans”, said company CEO Nuttac Africa.
This decision came less than two years after Godiva announced the opening of 2,000 cafes worldwide. Coffees offer an expanded wisdom beyond chocolate, including roasted products, sandwiches, and coffee.
At the time, Godiva planned to open about a third of the US cafes. Godiva's retail shops in Europe, the Middle East and the largest China will continue will not be affected by the closure.
