Nezir Mehmetaj was arrested by Serbia's police at the Merdare border point a year ago, while sending his mother for treatment.
Mehmetaj, who had come from Switzerland, was arrested under suspicion of war crimes.
Initially, the court had assigned him custody.
Now in one year, however, not even a court hearing has been held.
So for Klan Kosova said Valon Mehmetaj, the brother of Nezir Mehmetaj.
We have had promises, but the court hearing is not being set. There's nothing concrete. As a family, we haven't stopped for a moment, we're looking at different options to speed up the procedure, because it's not being assigned a hearing. The lawyer has already prepared the whole subject, but the case is at the prosecutor's”.
He points out that he is not allowed to contact his brother.
We're in a position that doesn't look good to us, we don't even have a party until he's in there. We don't even have contact. We don't have the chance to visit because the same can happen to us, to arrest us”.
Valon explained to Klan Kosova that they have paid a sum as a campaign to free Nezir, but that this has been impossible.
“We have already paid a lot of the chaos, we are in debt, but its release has been impossible because it is not allowed to war crimes indictees”.
“Sead Spahovic and Ahmet Delimanjac have been nominated by the Kosovo Liaison Office in Belgrade. They took 40 grand to protect my brother, Neziri. We've also had promises from those who will be assigned, but this hasn't happened yet.”
We've got another lawyer now. We have hope, at least that's what we're told that the session could be scheduled by the end of the month. His condition is not very good. Nezir also has diabetes. We convey the therapy through the Interconnection Office”.
