Publicising election lists by political parties shows that political subjects are ignoring the gender equality law. Civil society says that the worse it is when the law is not respected by those who approved it.
Civil society has remarks to all political subjects in respect to gender quotas. The publication of the election lists has highlighted that the gender equality law, which requires gender equality to be achieved 50/50 in all public institutions, is being ignored. Arton Demhay, from the non-governmental organisation “Arise”, this considers it a violation of the law.
The nominated “number of candidates who are now candidates for deputies have been deputies in past legislatures and have voted the Law on Gender Equality, which is said to have to be achieved gender equality in all public institutions 50/50. The very fact that political parties are not proposing 50 %s of female gender lists, I think it's a violation of the gender equality law. This should not have happened, but it is seen that there is no political will to implement this”, he told Radio Kosova.
Unfortunately, most political parties continue to stand on the threshold, which obliges those who, under the Law for General Elections, to observe the quota of 30 %s of representation of women on election lists.
Medjide Demolli, from the non-governmental organisation “, speaks”, says laws must be harmonised.
“These lists that we have seen, besides Vetevendosje which was given greater space to women and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, which has slightly exceeded the quota by 30.9 % , while the two parties considered large as the LDK's continue to stay at 30 % , which should not happen, the laws must harmonise”, she said.
Political subjects days ago published election lists.
Women's representation on these lists is under the Law for General Elections, while the Vetevendosje Movement is listed as the political subject, which gave mostly space to women with over 35 %s.
