Laker: I expect new Kosovo government to continue dialogue with Serbia

EU Special Emisar for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak in a virtual conversation with Germany's ambassador to Washington Emily Margaret Haber has said they are waiting for the formation of the new government in Kosovo to continue with the next round of dialogue. Lajcak said he expects the new Kosovo execution [...]
“It is not time to organise another round of dialogue as we are waiting for the new government to exit the elections and have a strong mandate and will continue the negotiations process in Brussels. There can be no economic normalisation between the two states without political normalisation. We must present the European model for the Balkans”, Lajcak has said.
In her address German Ambassador to the US Emily Margarethe Haber said that when Serbia recognises Kosovo, the 5 EU states that do not recognise Kosovo's independence should do so.
When Serbia is ready to recognise Kosovo, I don't see any ban that other states do not recognise Kosovo”, she has said.
Lajcak has also called for a stronger EU evolution in the Balkans, especially in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue process, as the two states have not, according to him, noted any progress towards the EU.
It is important that the EU understand what we are doing in the Balkans is not only for the Balkans, but also for the European Union. The EU should give you perspective on Kosovo and Serbia. Serbia has opened no chapter, while Kosovo still has no visa liberalisation. All this is political and non-technical issues and I expect the EU to act in this direction and that is very important. If this region is not inflated into the EU's value system, it means that the Balkans will introduce a system of any other global player, and I believe that this is not in the US's interest”, Lajcak has declared.
He has said further that if normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia occur, then even the state from which Lajcak comes, Slovakia would reconsider its position in Kosovo.
When I am asked when Slovakia will recognise Kosovo, it is clear that normalising relations with Serbia will also be good news for my country to reconsider its non-recognitional position towards Kosovo”, he has said.
Emisari Lajcak has also spoken of the September 4th agreement, which he has said is not a classic deal, but more political statements by the parties.
The “is not an agreement on 4 September, because there are political statements that are signed by Pristina and Belgrade, there are no implementation mechanisms and depend on the good will of the parties. We are negotiating in Brussels an agreement that will have all elements of the agreement, we must be clear and precise in the dialogue process”, the Slovak diplomat has said.
