Responding to the question of what can be expected from the new US administration when it comes to Washington's agreement and whether this agreement or some of its provisions can be questioned, he stressed that the new US administration can set new priorities for its policy but that protects economic growth and regional co-operation.
He added that the same applies to American support for the EU-led dialogue, aimed at the overall normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
The top representatives of the authorities of Serbia and Kosovo have signed the Washington Agreement with confidence, and we hope they are still willing to co-operate in implementing what they have pledged. The goal is to strengthen regional stability through economic growth, investment and prosperity of the entire region, which has been the long-standing United States policy and will remain our top priority”, he stressed.
All efforts, he added, in terms of co-operation on issues of common interest, either by the Pristina and Belgrade authorities, or by the business circles or the citizens of these two countries, have US support.
“Modernisation of transport infrastructure, better trade relations and the possibility of citizens employing on the basis of earned diplomas and professional qualifications in the country in which they will have an essential importance for the economic development of this region”, he stressed.
To achieve these goals, the spokesman for the American Embassy in Belgrade concludes that communication and co-operation between the authorities and the people of the two countries are needed, and that the US is here to support this co-operation now and in the future.
In recent days, disagreements over the implementation of the Washington Agreement were heard by Pristina and Brussels, so the European Union's representative for dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, Miroslav Lajcak, said this agreement is a political declaration that is not legally binding.
