We are declaring a disaster because the threat this virus poses in our town has reached a crisis point”, Khan said.
“If we fail to take immediate measures, our units of the National Health Service can be overloaded and more people will die”, he added in a statement.
BM has registered a very high number of infections in recent days, especially London.
Hospitals are already mostly filled.
The so-called seven-day incident of new infections for 100,000 residents in the British capital now stands at more than 10,000.
