They promised they would not put candidates for MPs who have the indictment.
But this promise of political parties turned out to be not too serious.
Anni why Article 29 of the Law for General Elections clearly defines the criteria it needs to meet candidates aimed at becoming MPs, parties are continuing to include those facing the law.
That at least confirms the research the Kosovo Institute for Justice has conducted.
According to research conducted by this team of monitors, the Vetevendosje Movement, which joined Vjosa Osmani, mostly has candidates with active charges.
Of this party are 11 candidates for MPs with active charges, 2 of whom are convicted.
But LVV is not the only party to have on its candidate list with active charges.
On the electoral list for the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo's 14 February elections, there are 8 such candidates.
While the Democratic Party of Kosovo has 6 candidates with the indictment.
From the Serbian List are two candidates for MPs with the indictment. While the Democratic League of Kosovo is only an alleged candidate.
However, candidate lists will be sent for verification to six institutions, so that they can be certified.
“In order to implement the Constitutional Court and General Elections Act, the Central Election Commission will co-operate with several institutions, which have their role in developing the period of application/censification of political subjects and their candidates. In this direction, the CEC will submit a request to the Kosovo Judiciary Council, the Election Panel for Ances and Parashta, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Kosovo Agency for Intelligence, the Foreign Minister and the Defence Ministry, to verify candidates under Article 29 of the Law for General Elections. On the basis of the operational plan adopted by the CEC, we expect answers to verify candidates from the institutions I mentioned above, until January 20th, as on the basis of this plan it is envisioned that lists with the names of candidates are submitted on January 18th.”
And to complete the verification, the institutions mentioned have only two days.
From the Kosovo Judiciary Council, for T7 have indicated that it will only take two days to verify 1079 candidates for MPs.
We like the KDK already have a database on which all persons sentenced to a firm form bias are registered. Data from this registry can be verified in a very short and fast time. Two days, to make this verification is more than enough for us as an institution. The verification process is quite simple, since it simply confirms whether any candidate of political subjects exists on this database or not.”
Even in the Constitutional Court's act, it is said that a person convicted of criminal offence with a court decision of the form cut in the past three years can neither be a candidate for MP nor have a valid mandate in the Kosovo Assembly.
