Rain and snow clouds are expected to follow today and tomorrow as the same is predicted on the first two days of next week. So said Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute Director Letafette Latifi.
Latifi, in an interview for Kosova Prees, has said that we should be in a state of readiness, as such rainfall can even exacerbate the situation from the floods.
According to weather forecasts, rainfall will continue this afternoon, snowfall will begin tomorrow (January 10th), so that tomorrow rain rains, mixed with snow rains, and this situation can also exacerbate the Kosovo rivers, so we should be in a state of readiness, because it is not completely beyond the situation that was already in some areas of Kosovo”, Latif said.
She says that for the time being, in some areas, river levels have declined, but if it all goes according to predictions made by the Hydrometerological Institute, their level will still rise.
The water level in some rivers has begun to decline, except for the gathering point, or the bottom point of the Drini River basin, still at the critical point, while in the high rivers in the Gjakova, at the measuring point at Kpuz, there is a slight drop of water. But with snow melting and the rainfall expected to happen tomorrow, if it all goes according to predictions, these levels could rise again”, Latifi said.
Latifi says there have been floods in some areas of Kosovo, where affected areas have been the Dukagjin, Gjakova, Malisheva, Rahovec, Suhareka, as well as the municipality of Drinas.
“From the rainfall of the last two days that were unprecedented rainfall and with high intensity, created a poor situation with floods or floods in some areas of Kosovo. The worst hit area has been the Dukagjin plain, mainly western Kosovo, and the hit municipalities have been, the Gjakova, Malisheva, Suhareka, Rahovec, and the municipality of Drinas, a part of the Kosovo plain that includes”, Latifi has said.
Latifi has said that the Hydrometeorological Institute has long announced relevant institutions to prepare in such situations, and hopes they too have maintained communication with other local-level institutions in municipalities.
