The appearance of new coronary variants in Great Britain, Brazil, and South Africa, considered more infectious than the original, has stirred concern in many countries that are trying to curb pandemics.
Portugal, which has numerous air connections with Brazil, has also recently reported a high number of infected people after passing the first wave of coronary relatively well.
Seehofer said the talks are continuing to decide which categories of travellers could be allowed to enter Germany.
These categories may include returning Germans, as well as those working on cargo transport, as cargo flights should not be interrupted.
The interior minister stressed that Germany would present details on the ban on travel Friday and was eager for the EU to make a joint decision on such an urgent health issue for the population.
