A second producer of coronary vaccines has warned supply issues in the European Union, adding frustration to the bloc.

AstraZeneca said a production problem meant that the number of initial doses available would be lower than expected.

The new shock comes after some nations' innoculation programmes slowed due to a cut in Pfizer vaccine shipments - BioNTech, reports BBC.

The EU Health Commissioner expressed “deep satisfaction” for the news.

Officials have not publicly confirmed how large the shortage will be, but an unknown EU official told Reuters news agency that the shipments would drop to 31 million a 60% cut in the first quarter of this year.

The AstraZeneca vaccine, developed with Oxford University, has not yet been approved by the EU drug regulator, but is expected to receive the green light at the end of this month, paving the way for shooting.

An AstraZeneca spokesman said Friday that the initial <x0-volves would be lower than initially predicted” without providing further details.

Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Great Britain and the US. are all ahead of EU countries in terms of doses given so far.
