The European Union has reiterated the same call of the embassies of the states of the QUINTʹ in Kosovo to respect the work of independent institutions for the Certificate of candidates for MPs and not to interfere in their work and respective justice organs. The QUINTTY states, through a joint statement Monday, have called on political subjects to stop attacks on Central Election Commission Chairman Valdete Daka, while also calling for respect for the decision to certificate MPs.
The issue has also been discussed by the European Union.
European Commission spokeswoman Ana Pisonero said the EU expects independent institutions and relevant justice bodies to be allowed to do their work without interference.
Pre-election procedures, including those for the certificate of candidates, are still under way. These procedures are determined by law and include the possibility of complaint. It is important that independent institutions and relevant justice bodies can carry out their work without interference”, the EC spokeswoman said, adding that they expect Kosovo institutions to ensure the organisation of reliable, comprehensive and transparent elections, kept in line with international standards.
Pisonero also said that because of the short term The EU will not be able to send a mission for election surveys but will send an expert mission to support the election as transparent as possible.
“Taking into account the short term, there will not be enough time for the EU to send a completed mission for monitoring elections for the upcoming early general elections. However, we will send an expert election mission to support reliable, comprehensive and transparent elections. The EU has shown strong pledges and support for parliamentary and municipal elections in Kosovo by sending several monitoring missions since 2013. The EU has issued a set of recommendations and continues to call on all relevant parties to continue following these recommendations in order to strengthen and improve the electoral process”, she told Express on Friday.
The Vetevendosje Movement, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Social Democrat Initiative are some of the political subjects who have filed complaints in PZAP.
These complaints were made after the CEC voted not to be allowed to compete in the February 14th election candidates for MPs who have court-cut sentences in the past three years.
The election panel for Ances and Paraseta (PZAP) has partially rejected the Vetvendosje Movement complaints, but has confirmed the part where the CEC forbids participation in the election race to five MPs who have firm-shaped sentences, including the owner of the LVV) list and the candidate for prime minister Albin Kurtin.
The Vetevendosje movement has filed complaints with the Supreme Court on Wednesday against the PZAP's decision until the judicial body is expected to come up with decision within 72 hours.
Meanwhile last Saturday in a Facebook video update, Vjosa Osmani warned he would take measures against members of the CEC.
If we face such situations in which the CEC is abused to push forward the party agenda on the part of CEC members, I will be forced to take all measures for the integrity of the CEC and the electoral process”, Osmani said.
Even senior VVA officials have accused the CEC chairman of making decisions, according to her political preferences.
