EP: An independent overseer is required for content in social media

We don't underestimate the violence committed at Capitol Hill, we can't spread misinformation without thinking about the consequences, but the problem is who decides on how to moderate content in social media and therefore an independent overseer is needed, said Raphael Glocksmann, chairman of the Special Commission for Foreign Interventions and Misinformation in [...]
“Obviously, we have to impose restrictions on the spread of false news and Trump has carried out hate campaigns, but why block Trump and others not?”, said the Social Democrats' eurodeput.
“Internet agents already have a monopoly on social media, cannot even control our democracies a”, he added, while criticising the lack of transparency of “Big Tech” in content modeming procedures.
According to him, social platforms are like hybrid units, operating on unknown secret rules and procedures.
Glocksmann added that the Special Commission is working so that these platforms have clear rules against false news, stressing that they cannot self-regulated.
