“We will not reach collective immunity at 2021”, WHO scientific official Soumya Swanminthan said, during a conference in Geneva, stressing the importance of continuing to implement safeguard clauses, such as physical distance, hand washing and wearing the mask, to control the pandemic.
It praised the incredible progress made by scientists, who have managed to create certain vaccines, safe and effective against COVID-19 in less than a year, but stressed that distribution takes time.
“Takes time to produce doses on a large scale, not just millions, but billions of”, she added, calling for patience.
Swaminathan assured that vaccines will arrive in all countries, but, meanwhile, should not be forgotten that there are measures operating. According to her, it will be necessary to continue taking health and social measures to limit the transmission of the virus, at least by the end of this year.
