Many Assange supporters have accused the US of allegedly attacking press freedom.
The case against 49-year-old concerns the publication of hundreds of thousands of documents stemming from wars in Afghanistan and Iraq by diplomatic channels in 2010 and 2011.
Prosecutors say Assang helped US defence analyst Chelsea Manning break up the US Spyage Act, and that he was an accomplice in revenge and publishing classified information that endangered informants.
