Biden: Travel bans will remain, despite Trump's command

The Biden administration will not lift the existing COVID-19 restrictions for travellers from abroad. US President-elect Joe Biden's spokesman says the US will continue to hold travel bans on the United Kingdom, most of the EU and Brazil, despite a President Donald Trump's order to [...]
The White House decided on Monday that the entry ban would be completed on January 26, six days after Biden took office. But Biden spokesman Jen Psaki said on Twitter that now is not the time to ease travel measures.
With the worsening pandemic and the appearance of the world's most contagious variants, this is no time to remove restrictions on international travel. With our medical team's advice, the Biden administration has no intention of removing these restrictions by January 26th. In fact, we intend to strengthen public health measures on international travel to further ease the spread of Covid-19”, he added.
The US imposed restrictions on Europe last March and the ban on Brazilian entry was imposed in May.
Just minutes earlier, the White House had issued a statement saying President Trump had signed an order to lift the ban on entry into the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Schengen area of Europe that allows travel beyond the open borders and Brazil from January 26th. The travel bans for China and Iran will continue to stay, the order said, writes A2.
Following an order last week by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), most of the air travelers arriving in the US from January 26th will have to provide a ground test to Covid-19 or proof of recovery from the disease to enter.
