“I can confirm that for tonight we had a steering committee planned on the vaccine strategy and AstraZenecas representatives informed us this morning that they would not participate”, European Commission spokeswoman Dana Spinat told reporters.
This happens at a time of escalation of disputes between the two sides due to vaccine production shortages from this company.
The European Commission, on behalf of EU member states, has signed agreements with AstraZenecan for 400 million vaccines.
Last week, this company has announced to the EU that it will provide a significantly smaller number of vaccines.
Suspicions that the company is sending vaccine doses to other countries at a much higher price have prompted the European Commission to decide on the creation of a mechanism that prohibits the export of vaccines against coronarys without prior notice.
Astra-Zenecas vaccines must get approval from the European Bars Agency this week.
This should be the third vaccine to have authorization for use on EU territory, following Pfizer/BionTech vaccines and Modernna.
