An American secret mission in Africa to steal Russian weapons that cost him defeat on the battlefield. It's not the scenario of a movie of the last century's '80s, but probably what happened in Libya a few months ago, and today detailed by the prestige The Times.
The mission occurs in one of the most dangerous areas in the world, that Libya divided into several different groups, in war between them, after the fall of dictator Guddafi. One of the parties, that of General Haftar, who controls the eastern part of the country, received a great military assistance from the United Emirates in 2019, and including the Russian anti-aircraft system Pantsir S-1.

Initially, the trainers of the advanced system, made up of air-air missiles, were from the Emirates, but were later replaced by some of the world's most prepared mercenaries, those of the Russian company Wagner. Mercenaries reaped great successes for Haftar, destroying even some American and Italian drones that were secretly patrolling. But when Russian mercenaries withdrew suddenly, in the spring of last year, some of these weapons remained on the ground, destroyed by Turkish fears in support of President Serray.
There the mission to take control of this weapon, which has cost American forces further losses in Syria, was launched thanks to an automatic target system.
Tripoli's rival Haftar forces managed first to lay their hands on the Russian weapon, but then it flew via a C-20 plane to Europe and then to study its technology and the way to neutralise it.

The Russians, on the other hand, do not seem overly concerned, underlining that the systems that had been given to the Emirates, and that ended up in Libya, did not represent the youngest generation of Pantsir S-1.
Meanwhile, American analysts think the event emerged today largely to lower the reputation of the Emirates Army, with which the new Biden administration does not seem to have a good relationship.
One of the first decisions of the White House under the Democrat has been exactly cancelling a large contract with the United Emirates, too driven by Trump, which envisioned the Arab country's supply with F-35 planes, from the most advanced in the world.
