American Professor: Kurti must not block Kosovo, except because the law allows it to run

American Professor Alon Ben-Meir, through a Facebook status, has commented on developments at the Central Election Commission and the Electoral Panel for Ances and Paraseta, and also the Vetevendosje Movement statements concerning the decisions these two institutions made. The CEC and PZAP have not certified it on the VV election list, the leader of this party, Albin Kurtin, and 4 other candidates for this party's 14 February elections, as the same are convicted of criminal acts in at least three years.
This occurred after the Constitutional Court's decision to overthrow the Avdullah Hoti government, where it was also specified that in the elections, people who have had convictions for criminal acts in the past three years cannot run.
Professor Alon Ben-Meir referring to PZAP's decision said Kurti must be smart and accept this decision, not block the entire system.
He has indicated that Kosovo must form the new government, as there is much more to do and too little time to lose.
“Electoral Panel for Ances and Parastres stated that former Prime Minister Albin Kurti, leader of the largest opposition party, Vetevendosje and four other party members are not allowed to compete as candidates in the February parliamentary elections, citing their criminal burdens of less than four years' time. Sixteen candidates from other parties have also been prevented from competing. Following the rule of law is of critical importance to strengthening democracy; Kurt must be wise to accept this decision, try to clear his data before trying to block the entire system just because, in this situation, he can't run. Kosovo must move forward and form a new government, as there is much to do and little time to lose.”, Ben-Mer said.

Otherwise, after the CEC and PZAP's decision, Vetevendosje will also appeal to the Supreme Court for interpretation of these decisions.
