Ambassador of the United States to Kosovo Philip Costnett has also spoken of the Central Election Commission's decision not to run the leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, in the February 14th elections and can Kurti become prime minister. Asked on the “Politicalo” show on Kanal 10 whether there is any possibility that Albin Kurti will become prime minister since he is not allowed to run for deputy, Costet has said people in Kosovo should act as justice institutions say.
I am not a lawyer, I am not a Kosovo judge. So my opinion on that is not defined. I think it is necessary for people to act through legal and judicial institutions in Kosovo”, he said.
He has said that all candidates who are not certified to participate in the elections can complain and that it is very important to respect the decisions of the justice system.
I think of all those who are not certified, all potential candidates that are not certified, there is the complaint process. There is a court process and we have to respect it. The embassy, my government has often taken the position that is necessary, it is important to respect the judicial system, to respect courts. Not to say: We like this decision, we don't like it. So in this area, there is a complaint process, there is legal process. Let me add one more thing: there are people who will say "I'm not just talking about the Central Election Commission or these choices they'll say: this or that institution is acting under political pressure, people are committing crimes, you can't believe. I'm not naive. I'm not saying those things don't happen, but I would ask that Kosovo citizens, who have real and factual information about criminal behavior or the gross political influence on institutions, speak. If they are not willing to report these to the public, sincerely if they do not trust the police or the government to take their information seriously, they can do so in the media”, he said.
