An 82-year-old pensioner, former maintenance manager, has become the world's first person outside clinical trials to take the vaccine against COVIDD-19, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, reports The Guardian.
Brian Pinker, a dialise patient, received a vaccine at 7: 30 a.m. Monday from Sam Foster, a nurse at the Churchill Hospital of the foundation NHS of Oxford University Hospital
Pinker said in a statement published by NHS England that the sting would give calm while continuing to receive treatment and he was eager to celebrate his 48th wedding anniversary in February.
I'm really glad to get the Covid vaccine today and I'm really proud that it's one that was invented at Oxford,” he said.
“Infermies, doctors and staff today have been excellent and I can now really expect to celebrate my wife's 48th wedding anniversary, Shirley, later this year. ”
Foster said: “was a real privilege to be able to give Oxford's first vaccine at Churchill Hospital here at Oxford, just a few hundred meters from where it developed.
“We hope to vaccinate much more patients and health personnel and Oxford vaccines in the coming weeks, which will make a big difference for people living in the communities we serve and the personnel who care about them in our hospitals”, she stressed.
