They were on a Ukrainian military plane when the same one was caught in fire at Chuhuiv Airport, about 250 miles [400 km] east of the capital of Kiev.
Only two survived the crash as the search continues for four more.
The plane according to Ukrainian authorities had military crews, while most of those on board were students of an aviation university.
Ukrainian officials expressed condolences to families who lost their loved ones.
