Turkey's Foreign Ministry, concerning news that Kosovo will open embassys in Kuds (Jerusalem) announced that such a step would harm the historic and legal status of the Kuds and that it could be an obstacle to the recognition of Kosovo by other states.
A written statement by the ministry says that “From posts in the social media of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Foreign Minister Melza Haradinaj- Stublla is understood that along with mutual recognition between Kosovo and Israel, Kosovo has also promised the opening of the embassy in Kuds. It creates disappointment, even the thought of such a step by Kosovo officials, which would constitute an open violation of international law”.
The declaration draws attention that Turkey is among the first countries to have recognised Kosovo and has long shown efforts to recognise this country in the international arena.
“We do not see the right to build this process on international law, and particularly construction on the pains of the people of Palestine, whose territories are under occupation”, the statement said.
The issue of Palestine, as it has been highlighted many times in various UN resolutions, can only be resolved that with the incarnation of an independent, sovereign and geographical state with the capital Eastern Framework on the basis of the 1967 borders, the statement is highlighted.
Kosovo's “leadership calls on them to stick to decisions in question and to distance themselves from steps of this kind that could harm the historic and legal status of the Kuds and who might be stumbling in the future for the recognition of Kosovo by other states”, the Turkish Foreign Ministry statement said.
US President Donald Trump announced that Kosovo and Serbian leaders after last week's meeting in the White House reached agreement on economic normalisation and that Kosovo agreed to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, while Serbia will also transfer to its embassy in Israel.
Also in a Twitter post, Trump said that “Another important day for peace in the Middle East: Kosovo with majority Muslim populations agreed with Israel to normalise relations and establish diplomatic relations. Very good. Soon more Islamic and Arab countries will be following this closely”. / AA
