Turkey will send another drilling ship to the Black Sea weeks after Ankara announced its biggest natural gas discovery found in the area.
Energy Minister Fatih Donmez in a Twitter post said the other drilling ship, whose preparation work is continuing, will begin drilling in the Black Sea.
Donmez added that the Kanun will support the Fatih training ship, which found the 320 billion cubic metres natural gas field about 100 nautical miles north of the Turkish coast.
It is not yet known whether the Kanun will work in the same part as Fatih. According to preliminary data, Kanun is located along the coast of the southern province of Antalya.
More than a quarter of Turkey's long-term gas contracts expire next year, including imports through the pipeline from Russian and Azerbaijan's Gazprom and SOCAR and a liquid natural gas deal with Nigeria.
Ankara expects gas suppliers to offer more competitive prices and flexibility if they want to renew long-term contracts totalling 16 billion cubic metres annually.
