The diplomatic solution continues to be distant between Turkey and Greece on the issue of control in the Mediterranean Sea. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently again threatened Greece with “painful experience”, referring to the war between the two countries 100 years ago. Erdogan has stressed that if Greece does not enter into talks with Turkey on controversial territorial claims in the Eastern Mediterranean, then the consequences will be very serious.
“They will either understand the language of politics and diplomacy, or on the ground with painful experiences,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday, referring to Euronews.
“They will realise that Turkey has the political, economic and military power to tear down maps and immoral documents established”, Erdogan added in his harsh speech, referring to areas marked by Greece and Cyprus as their maritime economic areas.
A Turkish newspaper, meanwhile, has reported that Turkish tanks are moving towards the Greek border.
Turkey is facing a wide range of opponents in the eastern Mediterranean. France, Italy and the United Arab Emirates have sent all forces to join combat maneuvers. Egypt has also signed an energy search agreement with Athens for the Mediterranean. The European Union, which numbers Greece and Cyprus as a member, has also threatened possible sanctions against Ankara for its <x0 illegal” actions.
