The new test will cost around five US dollars and can fully transform the process of monitoring the spread of COVID-19 to less affluent countries, which suffer from lack of health workers and labs, reports the BBC.
The new “Test will be “directly mobile and light to use” and results will be given in 15-30 minutes instead of several days”, the head of O announced Tedros Adhanom Ghebreesus' BSH at a press conference today.
Two pharmaceutical companies, Abbott and DS Biosendor, have agreed with Bill Gates' foundation to produce 120 million tests.
The deal is expected to cover 133 countries, including many South American countries that are currently the most affected in terms of infection rates and mortality.
