A Spanish Foreign Ministry statement that this state can recognise Kosovo's independence if an agreement is reached with Serbia prompted Serbian media to seek additional clarifications from Spanish diplomacy.
The latter, in the response given to “Beta”, unveiled a statement slightly different than yesterday.
Spain's MPJ, said the Madrid government still maintains the same positions -- those of Kosovo's non-recognition -- and that it considers it a unilateral act, and against international laws.
“We will continue to support the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, facilitated by the EU, whose goal is an agreement on the final position of Kosovo territory”, reportedly in the response given by Spain's Foreign Ministry.
Referring to the September 4th agreement in Washington, the Spanish Foreign Ministry said this agreement had to do with territory, and in that form, the stance on Kosovo's independence and recognition from Madrid remains unchanged.
Otherwise, during yesterday's day, EUobserver reported that the Spanish state could recognise Kosovo if the latter reaches agreement with Serbia in the future.
