Specialised Chambers in The Hague have told Radio Free Europe that the president of this institution, Ekaterina Trendafilova, will hand over to judges of the Constitutional Court's Specialised Chambers, the request initiated by Kosovo Assembly Speaker Vjosa Osmani about constitutional changes related to the mandate of this Court.
Osmani has launched letter Trandafilova on Friday over request made by Kosovo President Hashim Thaci for making constitutional changes regarding the mandate of these rooms, which are otherwise known as the Special Court.
In this letter, Osmani has asked for preliminary consideration that the proposed changes do not diminish the rights and freedoms specified in Chapter II of the Constitution on fundamental rights and freedoms.
According to Article 144 of the Constitution, constitutional changes are adopted by 2/3 of the Kosovo Assembly deputies. The vote takes place after the Speaker of the Assembly addresses the Constitutional to assess the proposed changes in advance.
The ambassadors of the Quint countries have called on Kosovo's Government and Assembly on Friday, to oppose any attempts to undermine or depreciate the mission of the Specialised Chambers and the Specialised Prosecutor's Office, as well as to ensure that these troops carry out their duty in accordance with the Kosovo Constitution.
Quintus's places are: France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Through a media communiqué, the Quint countries have even praised Kosovo Parliament Speaker Vjosa Osmani's decision to ask the Special Court to consider Kosovo President Hashim Thaci's request for making constitutional changes, related to the mandate of this Court.
The Special Court investigates the alleged crimes of Kosovo Liberation Army members committed against ethnic minorities and political rivals, mentioned in the 2011 Council of Europe report, whose author is Swiss senator Dick Marty.
