The security and justice organs of Montenegro had involved Knezhevqi, as part of the group that had organised the coup attempt in Montenegro following the October 16th elections in 2016. Besides the leaders of “Democratic Front”, part of the group that had organised the coup were two members of Russian intelligent services -- Eduard Shischmakov and Vladimir Popov, former director of Serbian gendarmerie Bratislav Dickiq -- as well as extremist elements from Serbia and Montenegro.
Based on Montenegrin investigative records, Knjezevic had visited Russia once in 2014 and 2015, while during 2016 there were many visits to Moscow starting in February, while intensively by the end of June and the first half of July, when preparations for coups were calculated.
Knezevic during his visit to Moscow had meetings with senior Putin party officials, “United Russia”, where one of them is Sergei Jelesnjak, from whom he had also received instructions on how they should behave after the attack was discovered.
Knezhevq during visits to Russia, had also met people from the military and security spheres, such as Leonidas Reshetnjikov, who was director of the Russian intelligent Foreign Service- SVR. Reshetnjikov, later opened the Institute for Strategic Studies - RISI, which is said to be working on Russian service interests. RISI had also opened its branch in Belgrade in order to cover Balkan countries.
