Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has reacted after today's developments, where Special Court investigators have conducted raids at the offices of the Kosovo Liberation Army Veterans' Organisation.
President Thaci in a media statement has said that Kosovo citizens and the whole world expect specialised rooms to give the right, professional and transparent response to claims that the KLA has committed crimes.
He further added that the KLA has been a voluntary movement, part of civil resistance and commitment to freedom and independence, and is known by the international community.
He has said the KLA: “was also an example of co-operation with international justice. Starting with UNMIK courts, Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague, EULEX, local courts and now 5th level of justice in Postwar Kosovo, Specialised Chambers. No one interviewed or accused has escaped responsibility to respond to competent justice authorities.”
Furthermore, President Thaci has indicated that the Special should abide by the Constitution of Kosovo and that no potential defendant will evade justice, therefore, has estimated that the Special Spouse needs expeditions and spectacular actions referring to the latest Special Action.
This is Thaci's full reaction:
President's Media Declaration Republic of Kosovo
Kosovo citizens and the whole world expect the Specialised Chambers to give the right, professional and transparent response to monstrous claims, such as insinuations for “trafficking human organs by KLA” or for “A yellow house where we were forced to establish Specialized rooms.
As history shows, Kosovo Liberation Army has been voluntary movement, part of civil resistance and commitment to freedom and independence in Kosovo and as such is recognised by the international community.
It was also an example of cooperation with international justice. Starting with UNMIK courts, Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague, EULEX, local courts and now 5th level of justice in Postwar Kosovo, Specialised Chambers. No one interviewed or accused has escaped responsibility to respond to competent authorities of justice.
I stress that the flow of documents has violated the legitimacy of the court in the eyes of citizens, has damaged the state image of Kosovo and the rights of potential defendants. Publishing these documents has been unacceptable.
KLA veterans are the most subtle values of resistance and our movement for freedom and independence. No trapped by anyone will decide Kosovo on the opposite side of justice.
It is clear that mutual co-operation is required, in accordance with the legislation with which the Specialised Chambers were established. This special justice is obliged to refrain and act within the framework The Constitution of Kosovo and respect everyone's rights.
No potential defendant will evade justice. So I appreciate that there is no reason for expeditions or spectacular actions. And the integrity and dignity of each citizen must be respected.
The whole world knows that Kosovo was a victim. The KLA and all of Kosovo's people have faced genocide and ethnic cleansing.
Kosovo has always been and will be on the side of truth, co-operation, justice and international law, designed for building the democratic, legal and multiethnic state, the home of all its citizens.
This is the will of the citizens of Kosovo, devotion to state institutions Kosovo.
