The European Union should be involved in resolving the Kosovo issue because the United States cannot resolve that issue on its own, said Willfng Petritsch, former EU envoy for Kosovo.
“I would like the EU and the US to co-operate in such a complex topic, which concerns Europe and is important for Europe's future union, namely enlargement in the Balkans. I hope this happens”
Petrich claims he does not believe the US can solve this issue on its own, and that the EU needs to participate in implementing any agreement in order to implement it.
Former high representative of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina stressed that foreign policy successes are always important before US elections, and reminded of the Middle East peace agreement and agreement on normalisation of relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel
I think it's a model of Trump Administration. They want to achieve normalisation, but the question is whether it is possible to achieve it so quickly. I am skeptical about this, and it should be seen that implementation of any agreement must be implemented by the EU”, Petritsch said, remembering that Western Balkan countries want to join the EU rather than the United States.
Petrich expects an economic agreement between Belgrade and Pristina will be reached today.
According to him, it would be interesting to create a cross-border trade zone, adding that this is heading towards “mini-sengenit”.
