Kosovo Assembly Speaker Vjosa Osmani has said democracy is threatened by manipulation of the will of majority citizens. It has also considered choosing the minority government of Hoti.
On International Day of Democracy through an address to citizens, Chief Prime Minister Osmani stressed that by defending the will of citizens expressed by vote, democracy is protected in Kosovo.
“Democracys today are at risk of being reduced by minority representation or ignoring the will of the majority citizens. In many parts of the world, certain political representatives have managed to manipulate democracy by thus manipulating the will of the majority citizens. The danger increases when such manipulation is done even through the deviation of laws to achieve certain political goals. Such is the choice of minority governments that ignore the will clearly expressed by citizens. A scenario that has unfortunately been well-known in our country... defending our clear will expressed by vote we defend democracy that we built with much effort and sacrifice”, she said.
Osmani has called on citizens to be more active in social life, since its activism is a prerequisite for survival and consolidation of democracy.
Our active participation in social life, citizen activism is a prerequisite for survival, but also the consolidation of democracy at all times and places. Honored citizens' democracy makes sense when your voice is heard, it loses meaning when your voice and will is clearly diverted or violated”, she said.
As a serious threat to democracy, the chief speaker sees also the Codavi-19 pandemic.
Today, we were particularly serious threats to democracy, but the pandemic of the virus itself. If we do not mobilize now, we may also ignore the prevention of certain trends very quickly. If we are not careful now the biggest victim of this pandemic could be democracy”, she said.
Other than that, Osman's address on Democracy Day during the day is expected to have other activities.
