Calling it a moment of pride, Trump has singled out Barrett as a woman of amazing intellect and “unmovable loyalty to the Constitution”.
According to him, Barrett is a “one of the finest minds of the American nation”.
Its nomination comes at a critical time, as the president has already questioned the integrity of the new US elections and has not pledged to hand over the post easily if he loses in facing Joe Biden.
He has repeatedly reiterated that the Supreme Court must have all nine seats taken before Election Day, if this court should deal with the election issue. While Trump's opponent, Beden, has said the November winner should choose Ginsburg's replacement.
Now republican senators are waiting to confirm Barrett before the election. Barret would be the sixth judge, in the nine-member panel, appointed by a republican president, and the third since Trump is in office.
The president's decision to appoint a candidate before his hot re-election race with former Vice President Biden immediately triggered a fierce political battle in Washington, with republican Senate leaders arguing that the confirmation process should continue as soon as possible, while the Democrats claim that the appointment should be delayed until the winner of the November presidential elections is known.
It is the political inclination of the Supreme Court in which life - serving judges are appointed. The court had a conservative majority 5-4 before Ginsburg's death. If a conservative judge is confirmed to replace Ginsburg, the conservative majority can shift to 6-3.
Anyone elected to complete the empty country will play a role in making the Supreme Court's major decisions in the coming years on a series of important issues, including abortion rights, health care, weapons laws, religious freedom, immigration and freedom of speech.
