The North-Atlantic Alliance made comments on the Balkan Radio Service Free Europe after the Government of Serbia decided Wednesday that, in the next six months, it froze all military exercises and activities.
“NATO praises long-term partnership with Serbia. Like all other partnerships, the partnership with Serbia is based on the country's demands partner”, the response submitted to Radio Free Europe.
The Serbian Government's decision came a day after the Ministry of Defence of Belarus published information that members of the Serbian Army Armed Forces will participate in joint training with Russia and Belarus, dubbed “Slavic Brotherhood”.
This exercise will be held in Belarus in mid-September.
Speaking of the government's decision, Serbia's Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said it was taken to maintain Serbia's military neutrality position and “to avoid, or at least reduce, the consequences of intensified attacks on Serbia”.
Serbia is under terrible and undeserved <x0-> pressure from the European Union, Vulin said.
Belarus has been facing massive demonstrations by citizens since Belarusn President Alyaxander Lucashenka declared victory in the August elections.
Serbia has backed the European Union Declaration of 11 August for presidential elections in Belarus, which says that the citizens of Belarus “have shown a desire for democratic change” during the election campaign, but that <x2-elections have not been free, nor right”.
