Hundreds of people protested in Madrid against measures for partial isolation that are located in some parts of the region, mainly in poorer, more densely populated neighborhoods.
Since September 21st, about 850,000 people have been isolated in their neighbourhoods and have no right to leave, except for jobs, school or treatment, although they have the right to move freely within their areas.
Parks in these areas have been closed, while restaurants and other businesses have the right to operate until 22. On Monday, another 167,000 people in the region with about 6.6 million people will be isolated in their neighbourhoods, writes The Guardian, the newspaper Express broadcast.
“It is not isolation, it is division” were heard cheering protesters gathered in front of the Madrid Regional Government Assembly in the southern district of Vallecas, which is one of the neighbourhoods affected by the new measures.
Protesters called for the resignation of regional chairman Isabel Diaz Ayuso, who was criticised after saying that people's lifestyle in the affected areas is partly a cause for increased corruption cases.
